At Ladera Ranch Optometry, we’re proud to maintain a highly-accessible state-of-the-art office where our patients feel welcome and comfortable. Our office is equipped with the latest cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment technologies that allow us to extend the best standards of eye care to all our patients in Ladera Ranch.

Our experienced optometrists take a proactive approach to eye care — instead of waiting for symptoms to show up, we actively identify the warning signs of eye conditions and diseases during your eye exams. The slightest of vision anomalies are subject to active investigation and subsequent treatment. The following are some of the eye conditions we diagnose and treat.

Types of Diseases

Below are some of the common eye conditions we treat at Ladera Ranch and what our optometrists do to treat such conditions.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma refers to a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerves due to abnormally high pressure within the eyes, leading to potential blindness. Our optometrists in Ladera Ranch administer several screening tests to identify the initial warning signs of glaucoma, allowing us to treat this problem before your symptoms manifest. Glaucoma treatments can range from eye drops to surgical procedures, depending on the severity of the condition.

Dry Eye Syndrome

Most people experience dry eyes every once in a while. You’re probably familiar with the symptoms — burning, redness, watery tearing, sandy sensation, etc. Dry eye syndrome is an eye condition in which you suffer from chronically dry eyes — while it’s not dangerous, it’s certainly frustrating and painful.

You may suffer from dry eye syndrome for several possible reasons — your eyes don’t produce enough tears, they’re not sufficiently lubricated, you have a bacterial infection, or your eyes may be inflamed. Your optometrist in Ladera Ranch diagnoses the root cause of your dry eyes to curate the ideal treatment plan, usually consisting of artificial tears, eye drops, and possibly a small implant.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy is a complication of diabetes that occurs when the blood vessels at the back of your eyes are damaged. If left untreated, diabetic retinopathy eventually leads to loss of vision and permanent blindness. You should ideally avoid diabetic retinopathy by managing your diabetes, monitoring your blood sugar level, and keeping your cholesterol under control.

You must contact your optometrist in Ladera Ranch the moment you notice vision changes. Some of the common symptoms of diabetic retinopathy include blurry vision, impaired color vision, floaters in your vision, dark areas in your vision, and fluctuating visions. Our optometrists can treat retinopathy with injections, lasers, or surgeries.

Strabismus

Strabismus, also called “crossed eyes,” is a condition wherein your eyes aren’t aligned when looking at an object. The eye focused on the object may alternate, making it seem like your eyes are constantly looking at different directions. Strabismus is most common in young children, usually after an eye injury or a stroke.

While it’s extremely treatable, you must quickly contact an optometrist because it may also lead to permanent vision loss. At Ladera Ranch Optometry, we provide various Strabismus treatments, including eye exercises, specialized glasses, and surgeries in the most severe cases.

Amblyopia

Amblyopia is a common condition amongst children wherein the brain only processes information from one eye. If left untreated, the “weaker” eye may eventually suffer from complete and permanent loss of vision. As such, you must consult an optometrist as early as possible — treatments may include eye drops, eye patching, specialized glasses, or vision therapy.
